ABOUT DR. JEN

According to societies standards, I arrived. Who could want more? I was a board-certified Obstetrician / Gynecologist. As a private, community based OBGYN physician for over 11 years, I was blessed to make an impact in the lives of numerous women. Throughout this time, I was able to provide compassionate and comprehensive medical care encompassing all aspect of women’s health. This included routine and high risks obstetrics, preventative gynecological care along with medical and surgical treatment of gynecological problems. Of the 11 years of clinical practice, 8 years were spent managing my own private practice. Alongside of my professional care, my personal life was just as busy. My husband Dr. Gregory Seaton and I were blessed to have two amazing children. Both of whom were extremely well-rounded as straight-A students and involved in numerous extra-curricular activities. The perfect life, right? Wrong! We were missing the dog. But who had time to take care of a dog? Not me!

Back to this not so perfect life. Like so many high achieving women, I was under the impression as a hardworking wife, mother, and physician, I could do it all. I did not need to focus on my own personal health and well-being. Who had time for that, when you are super busy taking care of everyone and everything else? Sounds crazy coming from a medical professional, right? But it was my reality. In addition to managing my responsibilities as a business owner, physician, wife, and mother, in 2011 my husband and I become the primary caretakers of my mother who was terminally ill with breast and uterine cancer. We faithfully took care of her until she transitioned in 2013. As a matter of fact, on July 18, 2013 on my 15th year wedding anniversary, I held my mother’s hand as she took her last breath on that Thursday morning. Because I lacked the capacity and emotional management skills on how to take care of Dr. Jen, I went into work to see patients the same day that my mother passed. I had no awareness of how significantly out of balanced my life was.

In December of 2017, I finally developed the courage to choose a life of self-care and balance. One in which I was able to create the life I desired. I walked away from clinical medicine with no idea of what was next. I closed my practice and began a journey of self-discovery at the age of 44. Learning how to achieve and create a life of true happiness. No longer feeling the pressure to perform for others. I learned that all care has a cost. Caring for others can be costly. However, the neglect of self-care the most expensive. I began to embrace the manta of “Self-care is not selfishness. Self-care is self-preservation.”

As a high achieving entrepreneur, wife, mom, and someone who had to learn how to focus on what made me happy, I know what it is like to overcome the pressure, barriers and excuses that prevent women from choosing to take care of their own health and well-being. Balanced Lifestyle Doc, LLC was birthed from my new beginning of starting over and leaving all that was comfortable for me behind. Making a drastic decision such as this was not easy and required courage and the willingness to embrace self-love despite past experiences. It is my desire and passion to help other powerful and amazing women realize that it is never too late to start over or create your best life ever. Understanding that your balanced life is unique to you, but sometimes we are unaware, and we lack the skills on how to create the balance we so greatly desire.

Oh! One last thing! We were finally able to create the perfect family! We adopted our Scooby. He brought balance to all of our lives.

LET’S GET STARTED!

"Self-care is what you do when you realize that you and others deserve the best of you. Delivering the best of you manifests when you are no longer afraid to be unapologetically and authentically you."
